A Medieval Route

This is the old packhorse track from Lancashire into Yorkshire passing through Lumbutts - a hamlet above Todmorden.
For hundreds of years these packhorse tracks over the moors were the only way to travel. The valley bottoms were boggy and muddy witb no roads until the turnpikes were built in the mid-1700's.
The chapel you see is Lumbutts Methodist Chapel which held its last service in Dec 2013 after serving the community since 1837. Parishioners are looking to save the building and turn it into a community hub.
