Ok, I know it's been done a million times before.
The sun has been (still is at time of writing) glorious today. I jumped on a 26 after dropping J and two other children off at school. I didn't plan it but the sun wouldn't let me go home. I stopped in at K's work to pick up the camera he's been hogging (for a project of his own) and I continued into town.
Edinburgh is at it's most beautiful in the sun particularly when the place isn't hoaching with tourists (which will be happening very soon) so it's really nice to wander around the city centre on these days. There was a real quietness to the place today, a wonderful peaceful stillness.
If you know Edinburgh well then you'll know how unbearable it can get during the summer. I used to work at the NGS, which in the summer, particularly during the festivals is a glorified tourist information centre. I would leave work completely frazzled (mainly due to being asked 5000 questions usually about where people could go to eat! what buses went where, how to get to the airport and the most dreaded and predictable question of all.... where was the painting of the Reverend Robert Walker?....aagghhh the memories! I was once asked where to buy flower seeds! in a gallery!! ) I would cycle home so I could cut through the Pan pipe audience and the rest of the horrendous, thick, noisy crowds without being stopped and asked a touristy informationy question (Which would ALWAYS happen if I ventured out on foot......ALWAYS).
It's been a while since i worked there so I'm now begining to enjoy 'going up town' during the festival period again.......
.......but Edinburgh is at it's best in the sun, peaceful and quiet.
