Salt Ponds
Shortly before landing into San Francisco Airport, we pass the San Francisco Bay Salt Ponds at Redwood City. Salt mining was once one of the largest industries in the Bay Area. Known for the bright colours caused by the micro-algae living within them, these ponds are now in the process of being restored back to their natural wetland origins. The area has been saved from housing development and now wildlife are moving into this protected area.
