Whopper mushrooms!
The dogs and I took a long walk in Kings Wood on the North Downs near Wye today. We were hoping for Autumn colours but most of the trees are resolutely still green.
These enormous mushrooms were growing under some Yew trees. The tops of the mushrooms were literally as big as dinner plates (a bit thicker admittedly), the stalks not much thicker than a pencil or maybe an artist's paintbrush. They had a nondescript smell but the gills were fine. Can anyone identify? Talpa perhaps?
