Darlington Civic Theatre
My mother is currently in a care home just up the road from Darlington's Civic Theatre.
Opened in 1907 as the New Hippodrome and Palace of Varieties, it's one of Darlington's glories.
Sadly, it always seems to be on the edge of extinction - most recently because of the need for the local authority to tighten its belt. Darlington's Arts Centre has been culled and the Civic Theatre is hanging on by its fingernails.
I hope it survives. Live theatre isn't cheap but it's life enhancing, and the "Civic" is one of the best provincial venues around.
