Dragon Fruit ("Pitaya")
We were walking round Sainsbury's this morning, stocking up after our holiday when N stopped in his tracks, pointed at the shelf and stated, "What the hell is that?!"
It turned out to be a dragon fruit. I have to admit that I've never bought one before, let alone prepared one so we popped it in the basket and brought it home for pudding tonight. I had to YouTube how to cut it!
From my research I did not expect the inside to be quite so magenta in colour (the ones I saw were white flesh with black seeds). Very exotic-looking!
It tasted very sweet, has a texture like a kiwi and contains lots of vitamin C and anti-oxidants. It's also good on the calorie count too which is good.
