An animated early household piece of essential equipment, designed by Rowland Emett for the film ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, every home really should have one of these marvels. An ideal appliance to stand in an odd corner of the kitchen, the ‘Humbug Major’ is invaluable for making toffee apples and lollipops. Astonishingly and inexplicably, it is also able to produce the now world famous whistling candy-sticks. The picture shows part of this amazing feat of engineering which was on display in Leeds today, where a hiccup in yesterday’s shopping had necessitated a return visit.
