My Time Abroad

Wellington!

I finally finished that last paper as well as my classes at Massey University. All that's left is four final exams. Truly bittersweet, while I was definitely over writing long papers I really did enjoy my classes this semester. Specifically, my New Zealand cinema class, I learned so much about film in general and loved watching and learning about all the New Zealand films we studied. The NZ film industry beyond Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit is so underrated.

Not much happened the first few weeks of October beyond school and a few nights out. I tripped last friday while walking through the woods in the dark to a friends house and got a pretty nasty cut. But school is over and Blythe and I left yesterday for one of our last long trips before leaving Auckland for good.

The bus ride to Wellington was 12 hours long. Wellington is the southern tip of the north island while Auckland is very far north. Granted, the bus takes stops and makes some detours to hit every location but dang that was a long ride.

We touched down in Welly around 7pm and it was truly a beautiful city. Managed to rally and check out the night life but it wasn't a very late night since we got up at 530 am to catch that bus.

Today (Sunday) we hung out all day in the city. We checked out the harborside market in the morning where I got a mean hot dog on fried bread for breakfast. Walked along Lambton Quay where there's a bunch of shops, went to the Te Papa museum, basically a historical New Zealand museum and spent a lot of time on the harbor near the water. Really nice city, probably a little nicer than Auckland, though not as big. The coolest part was all the art and sculptures around the city like the one shown above. Gave the area a really nice environment.
