It's a New England Thing
Folks keep telling us the color is past, but it looks great to us. So much deep yellow, touches of red and orange. It's lovely. The rains are finally done and looks like good bright weather for the upcoming week. We drove to a number of places I remember from my childhood--a bittersweet expedition where things look the same only so different that I become confused. It's only been fifty or sixty years--why are there so many buildings where there was once open space? It is remarkable, though, how much open space there really is here (western Massachusetts). We drove through real country--houses far apart, woods right up to the edge of the road, very small towns scattered in between.
