black gold
That's what gardeners call the end result of this decomposing food waste which when garnered and re cycled by worms will eventually produce a wonderful black liquid rich in nutrients for diluting and adding to compost and soil.
Took this shot of a wormery today when I was on a visit to a nursery in town where they have had great success in introducing all kinds of aspects of recycling to the very receptive children. Hopefully the primary where I help out may decide to follow suit - we will see.
(For any keen gardeners out there, this particular wormery goes by the name of a Can O Worms and comes complete with a bag of worms to get you started - and of course there is normally a lid on the top of the three tiers - food waste top tier, digested recycled food and worms second tier, wonderful compost that oozes the black gold bottom layer!)
Wonderful day today for the first day of March. Very uplifting to see the sun again this morning, after an uplifting in a different way evening on Sunday at the Queens Hall - a once in a lifetime gathering of poets reading their poems to raise funds for Haiti - unmissable.
