Long train journey to Perth for conference tomorrow. Checked in then for a wine reception at the Royal Scottish Geographical Society of which I'm an honorary fellow... One of the exhibits in the Explorers' Room has 2 medals awarded for participating in the search for Sir John Franklin's ships in the Arctic, and some silk messages which were scattered in the hope that the crew might come across them... The 'Erebus' was recently found after 140 years...
