The Needles
After a hearty breakfast we set off on the coastal walk to The Needles, a distance of 10km (6,25 miles) The forecast was for a sunny day - which was hopelessly wrong - but the low cloud cover gave good light for photos and it was pleasant walking conditions. At times it was very windy and I was pleased that I had brought my woolly hat!
The views along the path were lovely, but sometimes we had to head back inland and walk on small sections of the roads where the coastal path did not continue. When we arrived at The Needles it is always a surprise to see how small they are - Gavin has sailed around them many times and I suppose looking up from a boat they seem bigger. My photo today had to be of The Needles although I was sure some of the other photos were better - if you would like to see some more images of the walk, look here.
The beach with the coloured cliff face was interesting and we caught a chair lift over the cliff back to the tourist centre - strange to be doing this without skis dangling off our boots! The tourist centre developed around The Needles was a little tacky and we had a horrid lunch there, and although Gavin and I wanted to walk the 10 km back again, the teenagers did not! Instead we caught the bus back to Yarmouth and then had a relaxing cup of tea at the hotel.
