winners under strange circumstances

Weather, on-track incidents, strangeness..... it all delayed the completion of the nitro finals until today. In the end, Cory Mac won Top Fuel and Fast Jack was the winner in Funny Car.

At the conclusion of the event, the winners usually come to the press room for interviews. But everything was all screwy, so the NHRA media manager piled the media - including moi - into his rental car and drove us up the track (literally, we drove up the left lane towards the finish line) to where ESPN was recording the two winners. We piled out of the car and stood on the track the guard wall between us and the winners and ESPN's Paul Page, and then we waited patiently for our turn to ask questions for our respective stories. Weird, but kind of fun, actually.
