Stories
we tell ourselves.
Stefano found this 7/8"strange, metal object on the verrandah steps.
After a little pondering, we came to the conclusion that it had probably been thrown over the gate inside a meat ball, designed to put the dogs out of action.
Incidents of burglary have become more frequent as the number of unemployed foreigners increases. Some even enter the houses when owners are asleep so dogs are an excellent deterrent. I've heard of mixing shards of glass into meat to kill dogs.
You can imagine how I was feeling. Just imagine this getting stuck in the dog's throat, rushing to the vet and probably nothing to be done.
I kept the dogs up on the verrandah to avoid contact with the front gate and began to feel hunted, surrounded by wolves, just waiting for a false move or the right moment to strike.
Now it just so happens that my sons are 50% British (read imaginative and practical)so when Luca saw the piece he told his father that it was obviously made by someone who cut a hole by drilling lots of little holes around the perimeter and then punching it out.
I called the plumber there and then who confirmed that it was indeed his work.
Big relief and yet another example of how easy it is to believe the stories we tell ourselves.
