Derelict Thursday - White Well

No idea why it's called White Well, it's clearly green (or would be if it hadn't been converted to mono). The beautiful mushroom shaped well was built in the 14th century by monks for the Bishop John de Grandisson of Exeter Cathedral. It was not strictly a Holy Well, but supplied water to the Farm that supported the Bishop's Summer Palace in Bishopsteignton.

The palace has long gone except for a few remaining walls in a farmyard but the water from the well still flows down the hill. Behind it you can see the 19th century pumphouse, which has a ?20th century wheelbarrow padlocked to it.

Part of Tim's (SarumStroller) Derelict Thursday Challenge. I look forward to seeing the other entries. Probably tomorrow though as it's a jamming night tonight and I must sort out what I might play.
