Water spines
The building I work in - one of the libraries at ANU - has an internal courtyard with both a water feature and a sculpture. I don't know what it is supposed to do since I never seen in it in action, but it seems likely that water runs down the giraffe-like backbones somehow and back into the pool. You can tell by the pipes and what look like power cables in the water (not visible in the photo but definitely there) that the sculpture is not just a static piece but is intended to do something. If I ever see it spouting and flowing I'll let you know.
This is the only photo I managed to take today before both my batteries went dead (the one in the camera and the spare I always carry). Its not great but its all I have!
