Feeling the Force
The sheer power of the water surging over the edge of the dam was awesome. You could feel the force and couldn't but be impressed at this piece of Victorian engineering.
Rising out of the murky mist amongst the russet brackens carpeting the Elan Valley in Wales this is Craig Goch, the top dam or highest at 1040' above sea level. Started in 1897 it was finally finished in 1904 and now supplies Birmingham with water.
The sheer noise of pounding, rushing water was quite astonishing as it dropped the 120ft into the river which then feeds the Pen-y-garreg reservoir beneath.
I wish the weather had been better but the dogs had a nice walk. The drive was still very beautiful and it is always a treat to see the red kites circling in the skies near Rhayader. They came so close to the car on the drive home but the light wasn't on my side and neither was my camera I feel.
Already I have an estimate back for the camera...sharp intake of breath here. It needs a whole new shutter assembly. Just paid too today for another Caribbean holiday for the vet, eye examination for Tilly at the specialist Eye Clinic. Her eyes are a constant worry and she now has a minor eyelid infection. Where do all the noughts come from?!!!! I may have to sell my body - obviously as a last resort :))
