A country walk

. . . . across an area called Grimes Graves deep in Norfolk near the town of Thetford, however, after excavation the many pits turned out not to be graves at all but the remainder of flint mines used about 5000 years ago. Filled in shafts had led to many depressed area in the ground.

You can descend the ladder, complete with hard hat, to see the flint mines. For the medically minded "Flint Knappers Rot" is a lung disease, silicosis, caused by prolonged exposure to the dust from flint, some probably had tuberculosis too. The sharp edged pieces were useful as implements.
