Smoking Seas

A horrendous day of weather, too wild for Ollie and I to go anywhere other than along to the hens and back a couple of times. They were fine, snuggled up in their coup with some boiled tatties and chicken feed!

The sea was boiling in the bay, huge waves and the air thick with spray. It rained all day, bucketing down, really wet and windy. Needed the house lights on all day, it was so dark! Just like winter!

This is the pontoon from the John o'Groats ferry which is moored in the relative shelter of the bay from September till May. Difficult to get an idea of scale, but it is huge and to see waves breaking over it is quite impressive.

Taken from the sitting room window - which is now covered in salt and bits of seaweed!
