Mossy Arches
This is our favorite trail in the park at Lake Padden. It never gets crowded, and it's cool and shady on hot, sunny days. The area was logged a long time ago, but for some reason many of the old-growth firs and cedars were left standing.
It's not a good place to be in a storm. The hills on both sides of the park form a narrow valley, which increases the wind velocity, and the trees are mostly shallow-rooted, so there are many downed trees. Some trees, with deeper roots, have their trunks broken by the force of the wind.
