First Day of Vacation
Today marks the first full day of our holiday. And, boy, did we pack in a lot of fun!
Started the day at a car show that was on the grounds of our resort ~ Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, North Carolina. We have a time share condo here and have been vacationing here (off and on) for almost 20 years. Although the last time was in 2005! Can't believe it was that long ago.
Lake Lure is situated in the mountains of Western North Carolina is a beautiful holiday retreat. The down side is that nothing is very close ....... a lot of driving is necessary to enjoy the area.
After the car show we attended a Monarch butterfly tagging ceremony at a nature preserve not too far away. Sorry, I can't remember the name of it. It was fun to watch the young kids capture the Monarchs and then place a tag on them. After they were tagged they were released and started their long journey to Mexico!
On the way back we stopped in Lake Lure proper and walk on the new Flowering Bridge, where I took this photo of a Monarch butterfly. This wonderful garden was built on the historic 1925 Rocky Broad River bridge and has so much to offer. The lighting was amazing today!
