Serene Start

This shot was taken this morning from the balcony of the apartment which is about 1km away on the opposite side of the Grand Harbour. Thousands of spectators lined the Valletta Waterfront to witness the start of the 35th Rolex Middle Sea Race.

The yachts had difficulty due to a lack of wind under blue skies and brilliant sunshine, managing less than 2 knots as they struggled to race out of the harbour.

122 yachts from 24 countries started the race, - a new record.

Went to try and get some high speed catamaran ferry tickets to Sicily and Mt Etna for tomorrow, but the booking office closed at 12:00 noon. The only option now is to turn up at 5:30 am in the morning and see if they have spare seats on the 6:30 boat.
