Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven
Dunnottar Castle is not only famous for its part in protecting the Crown Jewels of Scotland, the site on which the Castle sits has been inhabited since Pictish times - 5000 BC to 700 AD - and has a varied and colourful history.
The importance of the site to the Picts stems from their religion which is similar to Druidism, and which worshiped masculinity, femininity and nature spirits. The site of the Castle and the surrounding area has a strong feminine nature and symbology, which at Dunnottar takes the form of the "Green Lady". Her spirit has been seen in the Brewery at the Castle. She is said to be looking for her "lost children" who are the Picts who converted from her religion to Christianity around the 5th Century AD. Why she has chosen to seek them in the Brewery makes one wonder!
It was a brilliant sunny day, but I had difficulty getting the horizon straight because it was covered by the Haar which was travelling inland quite rapidly. I had to use the Straightener when I edited it! Hope you are all having a good weekend.
