Carrots

On the way to Gacuba to visit the Teacher Training Centre we passed many local vegetable markets - cabbages, leeks, spinach, potatoes, cassava and many other crops being bought and sold. What isn't consumed locally is transported from the small farms to local markets and then to larger towns to be sold. The first stage of the journey is done by women, carrying huge loads on their heads from the family plot to the local market. The crops are then packed so that they can be transported by bicycle or if possible a pickup to the larger towns.

So how do you transport the maximum amount of carrots possible on a bike? Stack them as high as you can, bind them with canes and put one stack on each side of the carrier (and sometimes a third one between).

Where there's a will there's a way!
