Hardy native
The native trees of New Zealand are a hardy lot. They often have to contend with very harsh conditions including salt spray on coastal sites, wind, poor soil and so forth. Their flowers are often very inconspicuous too. This is one of the pittosporums and the flowers are almost black and the size of a little finger nail. They make good hedges and this one helps block us from the children in the garden of the high school.
