Into the light

Holocaust memorial, Karangahape Road

A reminder to not forget, and not to repeat that horror ever again.

I stand suitably chastened and corrected.

This large bronze sculpture has got nothing to do with the Holocaust. It's called “Karangahape Rocks” by one of New Zealand’s most significant sculptors, Greer Twiss.

This work was commissioned by the Auckland City Council and installed, amid some controversy, in 1968. I would be totally unaware of this happening, since I arrived in New Zealand in September 1967, and was attending Otago University in 1968.
