Leaf on Fence
Intermittent rains and winds have taken another toll on the autumn tree color leaving many leaves stranded ....like this one on this fence....many more upon the lawns and roadways. Although my favorite time of year, seeing the leaves fall away and colors fade brings some quiet sadness to me too. The barren long winter months will song be the Pacific Northwests Shades of Gray that we all out here know so well!
Fall Song by Mary Oliver
Another year gone, leaving everywhere
its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves
the uneaten fruits crumbling damply
in the shadows, unmattering back
from the particular island
of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere
except underfoot, moldering
in that black subterranean castle
of observable mysteries- roots and sealed seeds
and the wanderings of water. This
I try to remember when time's measure
painfully chafes, for instance when autumn
flares out the last, boisterous and like us longing
to stay- how everything lives, shifting
from one bright vision to another,
forever in these momentary pastures.
After yesterday's major long swim and walk today I was pooped...cancelled a trip up to Bellingham to visit my friend P and opted to rest on the couch zzzzzzz
Backblip for Thursday here
