Stac Pollaidh
Achiltibuie
We woke up to a beautiful sunny day, watched the Ullapool to Stornaway ferry go past the cottage and then went for a walk around Stac Pollaidh and up to it's western ridge. The views were spectacular, right across flat plains with large blocks of sandstone rising steeply from them. Stac Pollaidh is one of the towering blocks of sandstone and is part of the North West Highlands Geopark. After we finished the walk we went on to the visitors centre at Knocken Crag to see examples of Moine Thrust. Millions of years ago the rocks moved leaving older rock at the top, and younger rocks below.
