Glentui
Today my son and I went to the Glentui picnic ground. It is a beautiful place set in a beech forest among the foothills. The day was brilliant and very warm, but there was plenty of shade to relax in. I took over 300 photos, but was disappointed with the results. The strong sunlight made too much contrast, and in the forest it was too dark to get decent hand-held shots.
Below the picnic ground there is a deep and narrow ravine with the Glentui creek flowing through it. Down there is very beautiful. It is also very cool and damp. As the sun moved over the edge of the ravine successive trees soaked up the warmth and wispy clouds of steam rose from them. The water makes the most delightful sounds. We sat on the rocks for a long time just listening to it and to the bellbirds with their loud bell-like song. This track continues on and is a popular tramping (hiking) route, but we went no further.
After lunch we went up the valley on a track high above the ravine. This track is popular with trampers and hunters. We only went as far as the waterfall however. It was a lovely walk, but it's disappointing that trees have grown up to obscure the view of the waterfall. It was frustrating seeing only small glimpses of it. No longer visible is the cave the water flows from nor the great bowl it flows into.
