Who Dares Wins
Tonight I stopped off near Doune at the magnificent memorial to David Stirling, who established the SAS in 1941.
I don't go much for military pomp and war glorification but he was an inspirational leader and innovator, and the memorial itself seems fundamentally grounded and without any hint of vainglory.
Recently there was a theft of brass plaques around the memorial, one a tribute to the SAS troops killed in World War Two, something which saddened many. I was quietly pleased to see that others had marked their own tribute by placing wreaths around the site, including this one from the SAS itself.
