Town centre

Romsey town centre was strangely near-deserted this afternoon, but then the weather hadn’t been the brightest all day.

The benefit for the wandering photographer of course is that you can capture the scene without the interruption of people or traffic.

The Market Place presents the best location to show off the attractions of the royal borough with the Abbey tower providing the dominant backdrop to the broad square at the hub of the town. It was market day, yet surprisingly by the time we arrived there was little evidence of what we might have expected for the hustle and bustle of the normally busy day.

The town boasts three market days – Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, with each one providing a broadly different approach to open air trading. But on a dismal autumn day in October when the weather couldn’t really make up its mind what to do, it’s scarcely surprising that the town took on a relatively deserted appearance.

At least I was able to find somewhere to park with ease.
