Unidentified red blob

As I was washing the dishes this morning looking out the window I noticed some unidentified red blobs. There are lots of green shoots sprouting from all the bulbs we planted when we moved here but these red things really stand out in our dull and dreary garden.

When the rain had stopped (momentarily) I braved the outdoors for a closer look. Definitely some sort of plant and if I am remembering correctly I think they're appearing where I planted some rhubarb last year. I do hope so as there are endless possibilities for baking with rhubarb!
