The water is wide...
...and smooth and deep. Spring will find this stretch turbulent and much wider. for now, it helps us paint an autumn picture...throwing back the image of the tree-lined shore. Just a bit further downstream is a weir that has eaten many rafts and float-boats...the veterans of this river know that and stay way left near that dangerous dam. It's only between 6 -8 feet drop, but the awful hydraulics chew up all but the most intrepid of kayakers. The approach looks just like this....flat and calm...hiding the jaws of the devil-dam.
