Another monday and another Magnet Kitchens blogging shoot at the rather wonderful new Space studio's in the rather salubrious area of Gorton in Mancheter.
I have a soft spot for areas that were former powerhouses of British industry but are now a bit down at heel owing to the loss of the industries that made them players and places to be to begin with.
Gorton like a lot of Greater Manchester was a major player in the industrial revolution and in not to far away days gone by, it had on it's doorstep one of the biggest train building industries in the world.
Since that industries closure the area has been much neglected and as you approach the the studios there are streets adorned with old sofas and rubbish that are more than cliched in their neglect, and are reminiscent of an episode of the 70's/80's episode of the Sweeney and Minder.
So as a location scouts dream location to recreate that era something positive has happened in Gortond and goes against the current 'Let's get out of Europe Shebang' as it's been given EU funds and the result is a thriving purpose built film studio which is invigortaing the area.
So being part of the EU isn't all bad.
