Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge

Bosque gives off a quiet vibe during the off-season. no boisterous birds squeaking and squawking. Winter residents will start touching down in a couple of weeks.

One small lake contains water. For those birds traveling through, and needing a mini-migration break.

Walking gracefully in the shallow water, was this amazing American Avocet. The first one I've seen up-close-and-personal. Such drama in his curved bill and contrasting feathers. What I love, those long bluish legs. Hard to ignore a bird with gams of blue.
