Chaffinch

This bird was rather unfussedly hopping about the neighbour's grass. I wondered if it might have been very young- I would have thought it would have flown away when I got quite near but it wasn't bothered. Just as well the nei9hbourhood cats weren't about this afternoon..

I liked the way the bird's colours blended in with the autumn leave- perhaps that's the point of its colouring but one usually thinks of the chaffinch as being one of the more colourful garden birds.
