Golden Autumn
The warm, soft light at last light of day produced this magnificent reflection off the gold and silver domes of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which lies within the grounds of the Conception Convent. I think the church is one of Moscow's most beautiful religious structures.
The place has a long and interesting history: a monastery was built on the site initially in the 1360s, burnt down in the Great Fire of 1547, rebuilt as a convent, and then closed down and largely broken down by the Bolsheviks from 1918 onwards. The church was demolished in 1934 to make way for a school. The convent was turned into a prison for juvenile delinquents. In the 1990s sanity returned, the convent was restored to its status as a convent, and work started on rebuilding the church.
Has to be seen in LARGE.
