Cotton production in Uzbekistan

Approximately one million people of involved in the annual job of picking the cotton, which makes up 17% of the country's exports. Cotton is aptly named as 'white gold' as the country is the second largest exporter in the world. On route to Tashkent we passed numerous fields of cotton with huge numbers of people picking, it must be back breaking work as each little flower of cotton is fairly small and the bush not very tall.
