Winners are grinners

Our town hosts the biggest car race in Australia each year. Fans started arriving weeks ago to get the best spots on the Mount ( Mount Panorama, Bathurst) to camp and view the main event on the second Sunday in October. It is by far the best source of tourism income a place could wish for. It is not as rough as it used to be, you could hear home made bombs going off for the week leading up to the event ...now they have strict entry checks and it is a bit quieter. One year they even blew up the toilet block?

There is an alcohol limit of one slab of beer per person per day, I couldn't drink that much in a year.

Anyway back to the race. It is for V8 super cars and in the past the main contenders have been Ford versus Holden. This year there were some Nissans, a Mercedes team and a Volvo team. The race is 1000 kilometres around a very tricky race track up and over a mountain. It is very steep and winding. For the rest of the year it is just a road...with a fancy address for the residents.

The best view of the race is on Television. I didn't watch much this year as I have just returned from Sydney. I rather like this ( bad shot) of the excitement shown on the faces of the winning crew. For them it means everything!

Oh and Ford won this year....
