Cliché
I expect everyone does this hand grabbing thing when they have a newborn, but its phenomenal the effect it has on you. For the first couple of days Evelyn was very much 'the baby'; she was a shock to the system arriving two weeks earlier than planned, & in rapid time - I'm driving home from work at 6:30pm considering an all day meeting the next day and a looming thesis submission & a little over 4 hours later Kate delivers Evelyn & everything changes . Processing it all will take time.
We'd already done the grabby finger thing before this photo, but it was this moment that things started to click - I just found myself staring at her little hands seconds before she broke the peace in her own charming, gassy way. She's not just an interesting feature in our life like a long holiday, a new house or even a wedding day (note 'wedding day', not 'marriage).
She is simply life changing. I'd say that's worthy of a journal.
It's also an opportunity for me to store my efforts of tormenting Evelyn with silly outfits & my own quirks of fatherhood. Here's hoping she won't mind too much.
