Hanoi - 60th anniversary of liberation
We flew from Phu Qhoc to Hanoi this morning and arrived at our hotel just after lunchtime. A lovely hotel in the Old Quarter of Hanoi.
Today Vietnam is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its liberation from French colonial rule so its party night tonight with lots of firework displays going on all over town.
We head through the night market to Hoan Kiem Lake for the evening as our hotel tells us this is the place to be. It is absolutely heaving, TV cameras, families, lots of young people and everyone in a party mood. Lots of little things going on all over the place and a big firework display at 9pm. Its difficult to take good pics of fireworks but see this link for some professional ones:

There were times the crowd was so dense we could hardly move but this picture encapsulates what we could see while watching the fireworks ... thousands of people taking selfies and filming the whole thing with mobiles and other devices.
AMAZING night ... what a good day to land in Hanoi.
