Canteen

Ours is much the same except bigger. Out the door into the heat then quickly under the awning into the shade. Lunch 30Rupees (less than 50p) consists of rice, chappatis, and 3 dishes self ladled into a compartmentalised tray Normally one is dal, one is often paneer based and the other is vegetable. For 50Rp you can get a tandoori or a chinese dish. I haven't had either of these since you have to queue while it is made. The stir fry is particulalry satisfying cos of the amount of rice spread around the floor beside the stove - the cook is clumsier than me.

Then we go to the smoking area along the street and round the corner where local entrepreneurs have set up stalls (toasties toasted on hot coals and drinks). You can get sweet lime juice, pineapple, watermelon or the top lopped off a coconut and a straw stuck in it. Heaven.

Except the policeman on a motornbike came round yest and told them they were unlicensed and to take it down. My colleague reckons they'll slip him some notes and start up again soon.
