Difficult Day
The phone rang at 6.30am, I had lain awake for 2 hours so I answered it quickly. It was the hospital saying The Mother had had a bad night, the doctor had been attending her and everything was being done that could be done. I could go and see her as soon as I wished.
The Man and I set off and he left me at the Infirmary while he saw to some necessary jobs. I was pleased she opened her eyes and said "Hello" as I approached. I sat beside her through the day, exchanging words now and then.
Late afternoon I called The Man and he came back up to Carlisle so that I could have a bit of a break by going to the garden centre for a cuppa, a breath of fresh air and a blip of the resident robin.
I had a chat with the doctor and, in the end, I decided to come leave the ward at 8pm and go home for a sleep.
Things aren't good, she is in serious decline but she smiled as she kissed me goodbye.
I told her I would see her tomorrow.
