Sunset over Arabia

On the road from Masirah to Al Duqm I noticed the sun was setting and took a few shots. This one, I think, is the best one.

This morning a few Omani's turned up at the Masirah Hotel to see us as they had worked on the RAF base, or their fathers had. There was much reminiscing on both sides, naming of people they knew and lots of emotion. They really do miss us not being there, it's certainly not the same place we knew but it was so amazing to be there, swim in the Arabian Sea, walk the same walks that I did 45 years ago etc.

Left Masirah on the ferry to Shanna at 1500 instead of 0900 because of the high tides. Problem was that the ramp would be too high for the coaches to get off without grounding. As it was the crew had to back the ferry away from the jetty a few feet so the ramp would drop a little. It was still quite an acute angle and it was taken very slowly with much frantic stuffing of thick, but flat, rope tenders to raise the front wheels to keep the middle of the coach as level as possible. And then taken the rope fenders to the rear to lift the back end so the rear didn't ground when the coach was descending after the rear wheels had cleared the hump.

Only a 4 hour run to Al duqm and arrived at the magnificent Crowne Plaza hotel.

Tomorrow morning we are up at 0600, breakfast at 0700 and on the road again to Salalah. Should take us about another 6 hours to get there. Got my seabands handy!
