The Wall of Presidents
This is our wall of presidents...it lives beside the kitchen table, adjacent to the big classroom style calendar and an addition table poster. Above it is a wiggly line of foam circles with the numbers 1 - 100 and a caterpillar head at one end ... I sometimes think we have long outgrown centi the caterpillar, but then once in a while I'll see someone using it so I leave it up there. On the opposite wall is a world map, so the eating end of our kitchen looks a lot like an elementary school classroom - very grown up LOL
Out of nowhere my sweet girl took a sudden interest in the presidents this week, asking me to pull certain ones down and read the facts on the back of the cards. I don't know why, perhaps she was just looking at them and wondered about what kind of people they were. She picked out Washington and Lincoln (because she knew who they were), then Taft (there's a street in town named after him so I told her which street it was), and Eisenhower, I pulled down Teddy Roosevelt because I was telling her the story of 'teddy bears'.
I think there were a few others, but I can't remember which. We also had to find the presidents who are carved into mt. Rushmore after I read that one of the ones we were looking at was in that group.
Today she dragged one of her friends over to the wall and asked me to show him which president was in office during the desegregation of schools - I suppose that fact had stuck in her mind as important.
Funny what things will suddenly spark a child's curiosity.
