***squeeeaalll!!!****

Isn't he just beautiful??!!! I apoligize for the not-quite-perfect focus on him, but I didn't have my tripod, and it was starting to rain, and he was in the wild!

My son's class walked to their Stagecoach Inn field trip this morning. (All the buses were taken for another grade's trip to the civic arts plaza.) They had to walk 2 miles...and it even sprinkled on them a little. I walked with them, then walked right back to the school. I took the scenic route and saw some hummingbirds zooming around the trees in this wilderness area. This little guy was on the other side of the fence perched on a twig [begging to have his picture taken]. I think he's a Rufus hummingbird! They are not that common here. I had one in our backyard last summer but I haven't seen him in ages. His chest was glowing orange!

After my hour + walk, I went to the Civic Arts Plaza to watch my fourth grader square dance on stage! They showed many examples of dance throughout the world - China, India, Mexico, Russia...and Cowboy. Our school was chosen to learn square dancing and perform for all the second graders in the school district. (I'm puzzled how we got chosen, being a science and technology magnet, we aren't really known for our performing arts abilities!) I was way up by the rafters, but they sure looked good!

We've had drizzle on and off all day. Just got a call that soccer practice has been canceled. Bummer!
