The back of the Moon
Some great Moon shots by people this week so for a different view, here is how the Moon works ... at least on my clock!
The moon dial has two moons painted on - just one visible at a time. Every 12 hours a cam on the clock pushes a lever which clicks up to the notches on the edge of the dial. 118 notches so a full rotation every 59 days. Two moons on the dial so each one cycles from new to old moon in 29.5 days like the real one! Bit of a head scratcher at the time but a fun challenge and it actually works!
Anyway it's cloudy tonight so can't see the real moon.
