St Cuthbert
My friend Bordeaux Vineyard likes to walk a lot. Has done a walk or two along St. Cuthbert's way. After meeting for a long catch up she took me along to St. Cuthbert's church in the middle of town where she had been told there was a painting - and this is it. It is truly huge! I couldn't quite get the whole of it in, but it is worth a look. Looking around the rest of the building we found all of it impressive, and there is a beautiful Tiffany glass window depicting St Cuthbert as well.
He was a 7th Century Celtic missionary who preached from the very spot the church is built on (traditionally) establishing the very first church there. At one time the church would have been on the shore of the Nor'loch and in the countryside.
