Diary of an Edinburgher

Goodbye little fur-ball

JR went into school (yes, on her first Friday off!) to try and get organised. Moving out of her wonderful room, where everything was organised and she had a computer and a whiteboard, to a spare room filled with filing cabinets (which are not to be moved) is proving rather stressful. However, a week off next week to consider options.

And so Archie and I were dropped off in Queen's Park for some lead training. He was very good, but jings! we must have walked miles - backwards and forwards and sideways. I had cheese treats for him - he goes bonkers over mature cheddar. Understandably.

He had a cheesy distraction as we stood right by a whole flock of pigeons. Mind you, when they all suddenly took off -nothing to do with him- he got over excited.

He had a cheesy distraction as two noisy small children went by.

He had a cheesy distraction as a dog walked by as we were sitting at the bus stop.

We crossed the road a few times to avoid meeting other dogs. Now we have to stop the high pitched loud yelping as he gets off the bus and scares old ladies in the queue in front of him, thinking they've stood on his paw.

Thankfully, there were no dogs at the Parliament building - those ponds are often full of dogs. Archie sat and contemplated Scottish Independence. Or maybe he didn't.

A bus up the High Street and then we walked through the Meadows. The walkway was very busy - so it's not ideal to keep stopping, or changing direction with a pulling dog! People get annoyed. And probably thought I was awful, as Archie started his coughing/choking/wheezing, which had not been in evidence at all, to embarrass me. Who knew he was that clever sneaky!

He was very quite good, but the sight of the Meadows proved too exciting, as it would for anything on four legs, so I let him off for a run around as we walked through.

Across the main road, I kept him on the lead across the putting green, and we sauntered up the road slowly, no tugging. I think we're getting somewhere!

Tomorrow is his Big Day. A proper grown up haircut. Goodbye little fur-ball!

PS just read that Malala Yousafzai has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. At last a truly deserving winner!

PPS News that the long awaited Apple Store is opening soon in Edinburgh!
