before taking away to read.

This is the Hakanoa Reserve Community Library, one of a number to be found beside small inner city parks. The parks are often quite narrow strips of land connecting two parallel streets. Sometimes there are swings and other play equipment. There may be a swathe of lawn, and often there are trees and shrubs, usually natives.

The Community Libraries work on the basis of take one book, and put one in. I have run past the one by the Vermont Reserve, and there has been one time when the box was almost overflowing and other times when there were fewer books. So the strict one of one is obviously variably interpreted. I doubt there is much monitoring.

I don't know her name, nor what book she is browsing. She had no drink. I do know the place.
